Preliminary sequence - 'Feed the fish'

The preliminary tasks taught us a lot about filming and editing as we had to re film and re edit a lot of the footage. When we first started to film we made a big mistake and tilted the camera so it was portrait, making the footage different from other clips we had shot. When it came to editing we uploaded the footage to final cut express and this is where we noticed the camera difference so we had to rotate all the footage so it became equal. By doing this we learnt more from final cut , giving us more experience for when we had to film out main task. We tried to use as many shots as possible while making sure we did not make the film look uneasy towards the audience, for example we used extreme close ups to highlight the importance of the dialogue, making the atmosphere tense.  We also used long shots to capture the whole mise en scene and setting to inform the audience of where this is . Overall filming and editing the prelim task really helped us when it came to our final preoduction , it improved our knowledge and skills for final cut express which helped speed up the editing process.

Response to ideas for our group.

Overall I feel that our group choice was very successful as we hit certain targets of our initial plan ideas. I really enjoyed picking this genre as it was different from the rest of the class and was unique when it came together as a project. We wanted to create something different and explore different types of camera shots, music genre and skills when producing our ‘ rom-com’.  Rather than using fast tracks and typical shots we explored different camera shots to our sequence to keep it interesting and appealing. Our main idea for our sequence we used a parallel narrative, highlighting the separate lives of our characters and the outcome of what could happen later on. This idea came from the opening sequence of ‘Legally Blonde’, this appealed to us, as it was a great way to open up a sequence while introducing both characters at once and keeps the sequence flowing rather then being jumpy.  Our group choice was based on knowledge from films we had seen ourselves, for example, ‘ A Walk To Remember ‘, ‘Legally Blonde’ and typical teen flicks.  I enjoyed creating our idea from scratch as it let us be free with our own ideas when it came to filming cooperating different camera shots like a close up track , while using key iconic parts.

editing

We uploaded all of our footage today and began sorting out the order of the sequences . By uploading this footage we sson realised we were missing a key clip of showing us the location , we remembered we had a good clip in our prelim task , so we used that when moving locations from our characters homes to school.

planning part 4

After school i shot our final parts with Jack , Our main character . This filming did not take very long as everything went smoothly , however some shots were too dark but i added extra light to this footage making the sequence easier to see.

We have shot our first part of the sequence with Nicky , our main character . We have added extra shots and change some around , we added an extreme close up of her lips rather than her eyes .
